Tuesday night’s preseason game between the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers saw some of Stephen Curry’s videos go viral. Austin Reaves fouled Curry at the conclusion of the second quarter, and the Warriors guard made fun of him hilariously for not making a play.
Reaves has been charged with flopping considerably more times than not. He has since gained a reputation for being a flopper and ended up making more free throws than anyone else in this game, six to be exact.
Regarding the second viral event, it happened at the start of the third quarter. D’Angelo Russell shimmied on his old teammate after he beat Curry with a step-back three, only to have the favor returned on the very next play.
I don’t think Russell’s decision to shimmy on Curry was the best one. It is not appropriate to prod that bear. This pair was chirping at one another the previous season, which may be the reason he did it. Curry was verbally abusing Russell during the Warriors’ March game against the Lakers.
That evening, the Warriors won, and they also prevailed in this instance. They won 111-97, having a lead of up to 21 points at one stage. Curry finished the game with 16 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals, but he wasn’t very effective. The 36-year-old made 6-18 field goals and 3-11 shots that were beyond the arc.
It’s remarkable that Curry is currently shooting 28.0% from three and 36.6% from the field in the preseason. But like at the Olympics, it’s only a matter of time until he starts going.
In spite of Curry’s shooting difficulties, the Warriors have started the preseason 5-0. The influence that young talents Moses Moody and Jonathan Kuminga will have in 2024–2025 will be exciting to watch.
The Lakers’ preseason record now stands at 1-3 as a result of this defeat. They have struggled with outside shooting thus far; versus the Warriors, they shot 11–40 from three. After that game, the Lakers’ three-point shooting percentage in the preseason dropped to 29.5%. They will need to improve on that performance when the real games start.

For instance, Russell averaged 22.7 points per game and 45.9% from three-point range in January. Back then, he was taking over games and making a spectacle out of them. But when the Lakers faced the Denver Nuggets in five games in the opening round of the playoffs, Russell averaged 14.2 points per game and shot 31.8% from three. He ought to reconsider before making such claims until he becomes more consistent.
