A24’s captivating new thriller Babygirl, which received a standing ovation for seven minutes at the prestigious Venice Film Festival, has captivated fans. And ever since the sultry trailer was released, the excitement only appears to have grown.

The two-minute teaser, which was released on Tuesday, October 1, offers a tantalizing look into the life of Nicole Kidman’s character, a high-flying CEO who becomes enamored with a lovely young intern. His actor, Harris Dickinson, is no stranger to praise, having been listed among the coveted Hottest 100: Young Male and Teen Actors of 2024 by IMDB.

In the movie, Kidman, who had to leave her Venice premiere immediately after her mother passed away, is the epitome of power as she lives a seemingly peaceful existence with her on-screen husband Antonio Banderas and their kids. But when she first meets Dickinson’s character, everything starts to fall apart. A voiceover that hints at the stress builds as it says, “Everyone is just waiting for me to buckle under the pressure.”

According to the Mirror, the teaser shows the couple’s interactions before a “inappropriate” comment and the first kiss that starts their infamous romance. Fans of erotic films responded quickly, comparing it to other titillating blockbusters. One fan wrote on YouTube, “A24 out here making a better version of 50 Shades of Grey.”

Meanwhile, supporters’ enthusiasm reached a fever pitch on X, the former Twitter. With comments like “Sexy cinema is SO back” and praise for the stars’ obvious chemistry, the R-rated movie created quite a sensation. The trailer’s sheer hotness had one fan blush, while another brazenly called it “the naughtiest film of the year.”

Fans have been very supportive of the trailer, but others have expressed disapproval of the frequent occurrence of age-gap romances in movies, particularly when the woman is the older partner. Some cited recent films such as “The Idea of You,” in which Anne Hathaway enchants Nicholas Galitzine, and “A Family Affair,” on Netflix, in which Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron are hot on screen. One observer wrote: “God!!! These films are all quite similar. It’s becoming monotonous.

The sensual thriller, directed by Halina Reijn of the Netherlands and starring Sophie Wilde from Everything Now, is scheduled to be released on Christmas Day in the United States and January 2025 in the United Kingdom.
