Baker Mayfield, quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, appears to find the Texas Longhorns’ celebration of their victory over Oklahoma on Saturday amusing.

The Sooners’ Heisman Trophy winner, Mayfield, was the target of some jeering after Texas’ 34-3 victory over Oklahoma on Saturday. In addition to placing a Texas flag at middle during the Cotton Bowl, Longhorns players also placed the flag on a Mayfield jersey.

Following the Buccaneers’ victory over New Orleans, Mayfield was questioned about this, and his response was ideal.

Mayfield stated, “It’s just a kid from Austin, Texas who went to Oklahoma, won his last two Red River games, and has been living in their heads for nearly ten years.”

In 2015, Mayfield’s first Red River rivalry game, Texas, did defeat Oklahoma. He added that he went on to defeat them twice in 2016 and 2017.

Since Mayfield has never shied away from making fun of the Longhorns, he should be able to handle it when the slight is returned. However, he’ll likely be hoping that the Sooners can make amends the following season.

Baker Mayfield’s response best captured the unpleasant feelings that the Atlanta Falcons inflicted on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday night.

No team ever had a lead of more than seven points during the thrilling game between the Falcons and Bucs. At Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, the Bucs led 24–17 at the half and 27–20 at the beginning of the fourth quarter. As regulation time ran down, however, the Falcons rallied and converted a field goal to force overtime.

Kirk Cousins then found KhaDarel Hodge for a short pass on the fourth play of Atlanta’s opening possession of overtime. Hodge then took it all the way to the house for a 45-yard touchdown to win the game 36-30. Mayfield was shocked that he was never given an opportunity to touch the ball in overtime.

Mayfield went 19/24 for 180 yards and three touchdowns, which was a fantastic night. He ran 42 yards as well. However, Cousins outpaced him, passing for a ridiculous 509 yards and four touchdowns.

Atlanta has the tiebreaker for first place in the NFC South despite both teams being 3-2.
