Kris Boyd has identified Philippe Clement’s inability to determine his best starting lineup as a major problem for the Rangers boss.
Clement, who brought in nine new players during the summer transfer window, has struggled to produce a reliable squad, which has led to a range of outcomes.
The Rangers manager’s selection disarray has been exacerbated by a string of injuries, bans, and subpar performances, which has undoubtedly led to a difficult start to the season.
After just seven games, Rangers are already five points behind their bitter rivals Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
Domestic competitions have not been the only source of the Light Blues’ problems. Rangers’ earlier success with a 2-0 away victory against Malmo was overshadowed by their disappointing 4-1 loss to Lyon at Ibrox in the UEFA Europa League.
Both fans and commentators are alarmed by this discrepancy.
Boyd has noted that the club’s recent hiring strategy, which prioritized quantity over quality, may be backfiring. In addition, over the previous few years, a lot of important players have had their contracts run down.
He contends that the arrival of new players has weakened team unity, making it more difficult for Clement to assemble a consistent starting lineup.
Boyd outlined his primary concerns while talking about Rangers’ season thus far on William Hill’s premier SPFL program, The Warm-Up.
The hero from Ibrox remarked, “Listen, I find it difficult to sit here.” In my opinion, Rangers Football Club should never be considered a project.
Over the summer, a lot of things changed. Rangers have struggled with this for a number of years. The players that have been added, in my opinion, have not enhanced the eleven as a whole, nor has the recruitment policy.
“Now that October has arrived, neither Philip Clement nor I are able to name the Rangers’ starting eleven, which is why he switches up his lineup every week.”
