According to reports, Kasper Schmeichel chose Celtic over three other teams during the summer transfer window.

He has given an explanation.

Since joining the Glasgow Giants, Schmeichel has participated in every game. For the 37-year-old former English Premier League champion, it has largely been a good experience.

While vying for trophies at the top of the Scottish Premiership, he must experience UEFA Champions League football once more.

The Hoops goalkeeper, who signed a one-year contract in July after leaving Anderlecht, was interviewed by the Danish publication Ekstra Bladet.

When he became a free agent, the seasoned goalie is thought to have had the opportunity to sign with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Nottingham Forest, and Ipswich Town. However, he couldn’t resist the allure of Celtic Park.

“Being at the top level in the Champions League and playing for the title, like I am now at Celtic, motivates me,” Schmeichel stated when playing for Denmark on international duty.

When I reflect on my career, the games I have played in the Champions League have been the ones I have enjoyed the most.

Naturally, I have a very special place in my heart for the Premier League, but I decided to move to Celtic because I’ve come to a team that must win every game and draw 60,000 spectators to its home games in order to qualify for the Champions League. Those are precisely the difficulties that truly inspire me.

“Money has never served as a motivator for me in football.”
