Nuno Espirito Santo, the head coach, acknowledged that it was difficult to control feelings after Nottingham Forest defeated Chelsea 1–1.
The Reds may have had all three, but they certainly had enough grit to salvage a point from their journey to the capital. Just before the hour, Noni Madueke equalized after Chris Wood had given them the lead.
James Ward-Prowse’s second bookable offence of the game forced Forest to play the remainder of the match with 10 men. The midfielder, who had already received a booking, handled the ball after going down to try to stop Nicolas Jackson.
There was a bit of a brawl between the two groups of players near the end of the game. Nuno was one of the players scheduled for the afternoon’s action by referee Chris Kavanagh.
Wasn’t that an absurd game? Nuno stated, “Goalkeepers were making incredible saves, we were down one man, there was chaos, red cards, yellow cards—everything was there.”
I am unable to evaluate the yellow cards. For instance, James Ward-Prowse cannot be given a yellow card. It was his team effort. In a one-on-one situation, he performed for the team.
In the same breath, I’m trying to convey to referees that it is quite emotional for those of us on the touchline and in the pitch.
“So many things, so many ideas, and so many situations are present. It is quite difficult to control our feelings.
I apologize for my actions, but there was nothing I did that a different manager wouldn’t have done. In order to make an informed decision, I need to examine each of the yellow cards.
