Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus was eliminated from the ongoing China Open, and she lost a fantastic chance to catch up to Iga Swiatek of Poland. Along with players like Iga Swiatek of Poland, the 26-year-old is already considered one of the greatest in the singles category in women’s tennis.

With 9,785 rating points, Swiatek is at the top of the WTA rankings. She lost the China Open, where she won the championship the previous year, and her lead was drastically cut. Sabalenka then had a chance to close the difference to fewer than 200 points. The current world number two was meant to hoist the title in order for that to occur.

She was unable to accomplish that goal, though, as Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic defeated her 7-6, 2-6, 6-4 in the quarterfinals to send her out. As a consequence, Sabalenka maintains her position in second place with 8,716 points, just shy of 1,000 points behind Swiatek. In the forthcoming Wuhan Open, the star from Minsk will have another chance to get closer to the current world champion.

The Warsaw native declared on Friday that she will also be skipping the next WTA 1000 competition. “I made the decision to pull out of the Wuhan event following a big change in my sports staff. She released a statement saying, “I hope people understand that I need some time, and I am very sorry for the fans in China and those who were anticipating to watch me play. With two of her four Grand Slams won, Sabalenka has had an outstanding season.

The current world number two won the Australian Open after defeating Zheng Qinwen of China 6-3, 6-2 in straight sets in the championship match. After defeating Jessica Pegula of the United States in the championship match, she went on to win the US Open with a score of 7-5, 7-5.
