Despite scoring the game-winning goal in Fulham’s 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on Saturday, Raul Jimenez was not well-liked by manager Marco Silva.
The Mexican striker converted a 51st-minute penalty, his 50th Premier League goal, with the Whites establishing their best start to a top-flight season in 20 years.
But Silva confessed afterwards that Jimenez had taken the spot-kick duties off Andreas Pereira without approval.
Silva declared, “It won’t happen again.” Has Raul expressed regret? Indeed. He had to since he is aware of the regulations and the value of discipline within our team.
“Such a situation is obvious; it’s settled before the game. Raul understood that was not his moment, but rather Andreas Pereira’s. After speaking, they agreed that it would not occur again. The players are aware of the guidelines that govern our squad and as a team.
Jimenez began the season as Rodrigo Muniz’s backup, but his entrance was made possible by the Brazilian’s goal drought.
Three of the 33-year-old’s four goals this season have come in the Premier League.
In July 2023, Jimenez signed a £5.5 million contract with Wolves, just before the West London club dealt Aleksandar Mitrovic to al-Hilal, a Saudi team.
“We believed in him and showed trust in him during a critical period in his career when he was having difficulty achieving his goals,” Silva stated.
“We trusted him, but he was accustomed to scoring before the incident. He demonstrated his talent and diligence from the first minute he joined our club.
“Seeing him score and be decisive for us is nice.”
On Saturday, Fulham travels to Manchester City.
