INDIANAPOLIS — Pittsburgh Steelers’ starting right guard James Daniels was seen wearing a walking boot and had to use crutches after suffering an ankle injury against the Indianapolis Colts. Daniels left early in the first half after getting rolled up on, and he was taken into the medical tent shortly after that. He then walked to the locker room and did not return.
Spencer Anderson filled in for him as a right guard. Left guard Mason McCormick was already the starting starter, and Pittsburgh’s offensive line depth is still suffering. They have lost Troy Fautanu and Nate Herbig for the season, as well as five offensive linemen to injuries.
Daniels was using crutches and a boot, so it doesn’t seem probable that he will be able to play for a while. Isaac Seumalo, the starting left guard for the Steelers, is expected to return after missing the first four games of the season due to a pectoral injury.
If this week is any guide, McCormick appears to be the favorite to start at right guard in his absence. As a result, the Steelers may get a longer look at what their potential starting right guard would have to offer.
