On Thursday Night Football, the Dallas Cowboys defeated the New York Giants to go back into the win column, but it cost them dearly.
While starting defensive end, Dallas All-Pro edge rusher Micah Parsons suffered a high-ankle sprain that might sideline him for several weeks. Due to his mid-foot injury, DeMarcus Lawrence is “prime candidate” to be on the injured reserve list.
The defensive line is being decimated by injuries, so Dallas will need to find someone to fill in for Parsons and Lawrence while they are out.
Haason Reddick, who hasn’t worn a New York Jets uniform since being traded from the Philadelphia Eagles owing to a contract dispute, was the subject of trade rumors when reports over the weekend suggested the team might be looking at “outside options” to strengthen the pass rush.It seems like a fantastic option on paper. Don’t hold your breath, but Reddick is a tremendous player who would instantly strengthen the Cowboys defense.
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN claims that Reddick “isn’t a viable option via trade due to cost.”
For 2024, Reddick will have a base salary of $14.3 million. His problem with the Jets, though, is that they don’t have a long-term deal, which the Cowboys couldn’t afford. Dallas could make things work if Reddick was willing to play for one season at his present salary, but he hasn’t demonstrated that he is.So cross him off your list of desires.
As things stand right now, Dallas’ best bet is to search the league and try to get pass rushers from practice squads. It will be inexpensive and act as a stopgap measure till Parsons gets back.
Marshawn Kneeland, a second-round pick, will also need to perform exceptionally well for the team.
Although the squad will need to find a way to make things work in Dallas, it’s not the best circumstance.
