Julius Yego, who has the 2025 World Championships as his first aim, is still optimistic about making a strong return to the top next season.
Yego has had injury issues in the past, but 2024 was a reasonably successful year for him because he qualified for the Olympics and was able to participate in several Diamond League Meetings and continental showpieces.
The world champion from 2015 wrote a lengthy post on his Facebook page detailing his reasons for having to finish his season early and promising to return better the following year. He was proud to have enjoyed a trouble-free season and offered his appreciation to everyone who had supported him during the good and difficult times.
Yego began the season with a silver medal from the African Games, where he threw 81.74 meters. At the Kip Keino Classic and the Diamond League Meeting in Doha, he placed ninth and eighth, respectively.
Yego recovered to win the Kenyan Olympic trials and the Kenyan Championships, and then he went on to win his fifth championship at the African Athletics Championships. He cleared 87.72 meters to place sixth at the Olympic Games. Yego concluded his season by competing in the Diamond League Meetings in Lausanne and Zurich following the Olympics.
