Transfer deadline day: Sterling joins Arsenal, Man United announce Ugarte, Toney completes Al-Ahli move, Chelsea strike Sancho deal
The 2024/25 transfer window is officially closed after a frantic transfer deadline day.
At the close of business on deadline day, Premier League clubs had spent around £1.8 billion.
Arsenal completed a loan move for Raheem Sterling, while Chelsea signed Jason Sancho from Manchester United, also on a season-long loan.
United completed a £50m deal for Manuel Ugarte and Ivan Toney sealed his switch to Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli.
Jadon Sancho explains Chelsea move
Jadon Sancho has spoken of his excitement at reuniting with Enzo Maresca at Chelsea.
The winger has now been announced by the Blues after agreeing a season-long loan deal with the obligation to make the move permanent.
Speaking to Chelsea’s website, he said: “I’m really excited to be here. London is where I grew up and I’m happy to be back.
“It’s been a bit crazy. Obviously, it was the last day of the transfer window so it’s expected to be a bit crazy, but I’m really happy it’s all finally done.
“Chelsea is iconic. My idols growing up were Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard and now I have the opportunity to play for this club like them. It’s a great feeling.”
Explaining his decision to join, Sancho said: “I think it’s the manager who really drew me to the project.
“I knew him from his time with Pep Guardiola in Manchester City. He spoke to me on the phone about this project and what he was building here, and for a young player like myself it’s exciting and I can’t wait to get started.”
Zoum-ing off
Kurt Zouma has officially moved to Saudi Arabia.
West Ham have confirmed the centre-back’s exit to Saudi Pro League club Al-Orobah on loan.
The defender was made surplus to requirements by the Hammers this summer, with the club looking to find a buyer for most of the summer.
After being stripped of the captain’s armband – with Jarrod Bowen the club’s new skipper – Saudi looked the most likely route out of east London.
West Ham have now announced his departure, with Zouma seeing out the rest of his Hammers contract on loan with Al-Orobah, where he is expected to sign permanently as a free agent next summer.
“Everyone at West Ham would like to wish Kurt the best for his loan spell,” read a brief statement from the Premier League club.
