Austin Butler Shares Insight Into Being an “Uncle” to Ashley Tisdale’s Kids
Austin Butler exclusively told E! News that he feels “honored to be a part of” his former costar Ashley Tisdale’s family as the “fun uncle” to her kids.
Austin Butler has nothing but a big hunk o’ love for his former costar Ashley Tisdale.
In fact, the Bikeriders star is practically family to the High School Musical actress’ 3-year-old daughter Jupiter and baby on the way, who she shares with husband Christopher French.
“I love being the fun uncle,” Austin exclusively told E! News’ Francesca Amiker June 17 at Los Angeles premiere of his new movie. “I play with the toys and whatnot, and then I can go home at the end of the day.”
Describing Ashley—with whom he costarred in 2009’s Aliens in the Attic and 2011’s Sharpay’s Fabulous Adeventure—as “such a good mom,” the 32-year-old added, “I feel so honored to be a part of her life and to get to know her children.”
But the actor isn’t the only one from the HSM universe to be singing Ashley’s parental praises. Zac Efron also believes the 38-year-old—along with their castmate Vanessa Hudgens, who is expecting her first baby with husband Cole Tucker—is soarin’, flyin’ through motherhood.
“They’re gonna be the best moms ever,” Zac told Access Hollywood earlier this month. “Those girls, are you kidding me? We’re gonna have some fun family reunions coming up.”
While Austin—who dated Vanessa from 2011 to 2020—has not publicly spoken out about his ex’s pregnancy, he still wishes her the best. As he noted in a February interview with Esquire, “I have so much love and care for her.”
Clarifying that he did not mean to snub Vanessa, 35, when he previously failed to mention her part in motivating him to pursue his Oscar-nominated Elvis role, Austin explained, “I felt that I was respecting her privacy in a way and not wanting to bring up a ton of things that would cause her to have to talk.”
He added, “It was in no way trying to erase anything.”
The Bikeriders hits theaters June 21.
