Glamorgan CEO Dan Cherry believes that Wales’ cricket team has a “huge opportunity” if Ran Reynolds yand Rob McElhenney invest in Welsh Fire.
Reynolds and McElhenney, the Hollywood celebrities who, as co-owners of Wrexham Football Club, have turned the club’s fortunes around, have discussed purchasing a share in Welsh Fire, the Cardiff-based The Hundred cricket team.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is attempting to fund approximately £500 million by selling 49% shares in each of the eight Hundred franchises. These negotiations are a part of this larger initiative.
Welsh Fire is 51% owned by Glamorgan, and the county hopes to “grow the brand globally” if Reynolds and McElhenney were to convert their interest into a solid investment.
“For the benefit of Glamorgan County Cricket Club, we want the best possible contract. Our primary concerns include safeguarding and ensuring the continued existence of our Cardiff-based club, as well as expanding Welsh Fire’s global reach.
