Wrexham AFC announces departure of several players as EFL preparations begin
The Dragons announced the departure of 11 players this morning
Wrexham AFC have announced their retained list following their memorable 2022/23 National League title-winning campaign and subsequent return to the Football League. Phil Parkinson has begun preparations for the new season by revealing that a total of 11 players have been released at the end of their contracts.
They include Ryan Austin, Reece Hall-Johnson, Harry Lennon, Jake Hyde, Kai Calderbank-Park, Malik Djiksteel, Rory Watson, Tom Jenkins, Dan Jones, Louis Lloyd and Will Mountfield.
An offer of a new contract has been made to Liam McAlinden, while goalkeeper Ben Foster will also be asked about his intentions for the coming season after returning from retirement.
The club have announced that they will be extending the contracts of Scott Butler and Aaron James. The contracts of Mark Howard, Anthony Forde and Paul Mullin have been extended by a further season following the Reds’ promotion to the Football League.
Wrexham also revealed that a decision will be made as to whether or not Kai Evans will be offered a new contract when he returns from injury. The club added that youth team prospect Owen Cushion will be offered a new deal.
There were no real surprises in the announcement with the likes of Austin, Hall-Johnson, Lennon and Hyde all struggling with injury over the past couple of seasons. It is expected that Lennon will now retire from the game following a long period on the sidelines.
