Latest Aston Villa injury news: Unai Emery gets Ollie Watkins and Emi Martinez boost.
Unai Emery will have three important players returning against Brentford this weekend as Aston Villa look to stay on track for Champions League football.
Aston Villa will have been relieved to see Cole Palmer sink Manchester United with the latest winning goal in Premier League history in Thursday’s 4-3 victory.
Villa now leads United by 11 points after playing one more game. Tottenham, in fifth place, has a game in hand and will move ahead of the Villains if they win.
However, with the Premier League expected to gain an additional fifth Champions League spot, finishing outside of the top four may not be the end of the story. Unai Emery is set to welcome back three key players who missed the 4-1 loss to Manchester City.
One of them is John McGinn, who was suspended but is now available ahead of the Brentford game this weekend. Two other injured stars are also expected to return.
Watkins was ruled out of the City game due to a hamstring injury, but he will at least be included in Brentford’s squad. The number of minutes he gets is determined by late fitness tests.
Emi Martinez was unable to attend the game at Etihad Stadium due to illness. He has been given time to rest and may return between the sticks on Saturday.
Possible return date: Saturday (versus Brentford).
Jacob Ramsey
This is bad news for the midfielder. Rasmey is expected to miss the rest of the season with a foot injury after missing the previous four games due to a toe problem.
Matty Cash is expected to be out for a few weeks due to a muscle injury sustained while playing for Poland during international duty. The issue appears to be with his hamstring.
Tyrone Mings will miss the rest of the season due to a serious cruciate ligament injury sustained on opening day. There is little hope that he will be able to return to training before the campaign ends, but matchplay is out of the question.
Possible return date: June.
