Amid the rising climate crisis, a number of celebrities have taken responsibility as “hypocrites,” pledging to continue to make positive changes.
Among the 100+ signees are Thom Yorke, Brian Eno, David Byrne, Massive Attack’s Robert Del Naja, Jarvis Cocker, Lily Allen and Mel B, among others. “Dear journalists who have called us hypocrites,” the letter begins. “You’re right.”
The letter explains that the arts leave high carbon footprints, but the celebs will continue to advocate for climate change despite criticism. “Without systemic change, our lifestyles will keep on causing climate and ecological harm,” it reads.
Those who have signed are supporting Extinction Rebellion, which published the letter, and its acts of non-violent civil disobedience.
