The Carolina Flames 16u travel softball team, based out of Pilot Mountain, traveled to Spartanburg, South Carolina on Aug. 3 and 4 to compete in the Last Chance Showcase softball tournament. The tournament featured teams from North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee and Virginia.
There were 42 different colleges and universities in attendance. The Flames played well and were able to pick up two wins out of four games.
The team is composed of girls from different area high schools, including Elkin, East Surry, South Stokes, West Stokes, Reagan and Patrick County, Virginia. The Flames will travel next to Asheville, NC on Aug. 10- 11 to compete in the Diamond Classic Showcase.
The team will have open tryouts for the upcoming fall season on Aug. 18 from 2-5 p.m. at the Armfield Civic Center (East Surry High School softball field). Anyone interested in trying out can visit www.carolinaflames.net, or may contact Mary Ruth Love at 336-831-4801.
riday’s night’s game between the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers and Georgia State Panthers Friday night game was suspended due to a storm system moving through the Conway, S.C., area.
The game will resume on Saturday, May 11, at 2 p.m. ET with Saturday’s game moved to Sunday, May 12 as part of a doubleheader.
The game showcased the power by both teams as they combined for five home runs by the top of the third inning before the storm system moved in putting a halt to the action with the Chanticleers trailing 6-5.
Tickets for tonight’s contest can be exchanged at the ticket office at Springs Brooks Stadium for tomorrow or Sunday. Tickets for Saturday’s game will work for tomorrow’s game and Sunday’s ticket will work for both games.
Coastal will return to action on Saturday, May 12, at Springs Brooks Stadium with the first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m. ET on Saturday. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and can be heard on WRNN 99.5 Hot Talk.
