BBC announce tribute to Kurt Cobain 30 years after his death with new show
“One of musical history’s most shocking stories will be told as never before, as footage captured by local fans in Seattle and raw material from news crews reporting at the time are woven together, immersing the viewers in the events that unfolded, as they happened,” reads the logline.
“Kurt Cobain’s life and death has turned into myth and legend since his passing,” said Jonathan Rothery, Head of BBC Popular Music TV, of the project. “This documentary tries to demystify that moment in time by telling the story direct from the scene, via fly on the wall footage filmed by those that were there.”
“We are incredibly proud to be working with the BBC on this film, who share in our vision of using only archive to take viewers back to 1994; to immerse themselves in this seismic story,” added director John Osborne.
“Kurt Cobain was the voice of a generation, but a reluctant one, and his death left a huge void. The only way to get a true sense of what happened is to witness it first hand, and that’s exactly what this film does. It never lets you look away.”

The actor, 48, graces the cover for the new issue of Harper’s Bazaar UK and at one point in the accompanying photoshoot she appears completely topless, submerged in water and looking directly into camera, wearing a pair of white gold and diamond David Morris earrings. In the interview, Kate reflected on her own childhood, in which she felt she never saw women complimenting themselves.
“I do feel a huge sense of relief that women are so much more accepting of themselves and refusing to be judged,” says Winslet. “Because I don’t know a single contemporary of mine who grew up seeing her mother looking in the mirror and saying: ‘I look nice!’ My mother never did: it was always, oh God, I don’t think I can wear this, do I look hippy, does my bum look big? We waste so much time being down on ourselves and I’m just not doing it ever again.”
In Lee, Kate plays Lee Miller, the model turned photographer who became a war correspondent in World War II. As part of her preparation for the movie, Kate revealed she stopped exercising so that her body would look “authentically soft”. The actor then revealed while on set she was asked by a member of the crew if she wanted to sit up straighter while filming a scene in a bikini.
