DeMar DeRozan Injury: Updates on Raptors Star’s Ankle
Toronto Raptors star guard DeMar DeRozan missed Sunday’s game against the Brooklyn Nets with an ankle injury but is ready to return.
Continue for updates.
According to the Raptors’ media relations staff on Twitter, DeRozan will play against Los Angeles on Monday.
Toronto’s All-Star injured his ankle on January 22 during a game against the Phoenix Suns. He missed three games, returned to play 36 minutes against the Orlando Magic on January 29, and has been out ever since.
DeRozan, 27, is having his best season, averaging 27.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game. He was also selected as an All-Star starter. Despite continuing to struggle from beyond the arc (25.4 percent), DeRozan has established himself as one of the league’s leading scorers thanks to his outstanding mid-range game and ability to go to the basket.
Don’t expect DeRozan to simply follow the current trend of three-point shooting. He is old school. DeRozan told Shams Charania of The Vertical in January:
While Kyle Lowry’s ability at point guard may make him the Raptors’ most valued player, DeRozan is undeniably a matchup nightmare for opposing defenders. Many believe the Raptors to be the most dangerous competitor to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference, thanks to the combination of DeRozan and Lowry, as well as the team’s strong depth.
In turn, both Lowry and DeRozan are critical to the Raptors’ success, and any severe injury to either player would effectively destroy the team’s title ambitions.
