Chiefs agree to contract extensions with head coach Andy Reid, general manager Brett Veach, and president Mark Donovan.

Kansas City plans to keep the Super Bowl-winning ensemble together for the long term.

On Monday evening, the Chiefs announced that head coach Andy Reid, general manager Brett Veach, and team president Mark Donovan would all receive contract extensions.

Reid’s new contract runs through 2029, making him the highest-paid coach in the NFL, according to NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero, who also reports that Veach’s contract has been extended through 2029.

“I’m incredibly grateful to (chairman and CEO) Clark (Hunt) and the entire Hunt family for giving me the opportunity to lead this historic franchise,” Reid said in a team release. “For the past 11 years, Tammy and I have enjoyed calling Kansas City our home. The town has welcomed us, and we’ve seen our family grow, including all 12 grandchildren throughout our time here. On the field, so many people have contributed to our success and Super Bowl appearances, and I’m appreciative to the players, coaches, and staff who have all given their time to this process. I would also like to thank my agent, Bob LaMonte. Chiefs Kingdom is a beautiful place, and I’m lucky to have this opportunity.

Since 2017, the trio has helped turn the Chiefs into three Super Bowl champions.

In addition to the Lombardi Trophy, the Reid-Veach-Donovan combination has led the Chiefs to a 100-34 record in the regular season and postseason combined, including seven consecutive AFC West division titles, four AFC Championship Game victories, and an incredible six consecutive AFC title game appearances.

“Mark, Brett and Andy have achieved historic success together, and we are thrilled that they will continue in their roles for many years to come,” Hunt told reporters in a statement. “Individually, Mark, Brett, and Andy are the greatest in the National Football League at their respective positions, and together, they form one of the top leadership teams in professional sports. They have been outstanding leaders for this organisation both on and off the pitch, and we look forward to their continuing success in the coming years.

The Chiefs are coming off their most recent Super Bowl victory, an overtime win over the San Francisco 49ers.

Prior to the biggest of big games, Reid, 66, was bombarded with inquiries about perhaps retiring. He stated repeatedly before and after the game that he would stay put, and Big Red is now committed for the rest of his 71-year career.

Reid, the Philadelphia Eagles’ all-time wins leader with 130, joined the Chiefs in 2013 and was immediately successful.

Reid led the Chiefs to an 11-5 record in his first season. Under Reid, Kansas City has had a winning season every year and missed the playoffs only once, and he’s also become the Chiefs’ all-time leader in wins, moving into 2024 with a superb 128-51 record.

Reid is an offensive maestro whose marriage with quarterback Patrick Mahomes will be remembered as one of the best HC-QB pairings in NFL history. He is one of five coaches in league history to have won at least three Super Bowls, and his 284 career wins (including postseason) rank fourth all time.

Veach began his NFL career in 2004 as a coaching intern for Reid’s Eagles. He became the Chiefs’ general manager in 2017 and has been at the forefront of creating the league’s most successful group.

Donovan has the longest tenure with the Chiefs, having joined the team in 2009 as chief operating officer. Two years later, he was appointed team president.

After winning Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas, the Chiefs became the seventh NFL team to win four Super Bowls. Donovan, Reid, and Veach led the team to three victories.

The Chiefs have established a dynasty, and Hunt has made certain that his architects will not go for the foreseeable future.
