Is Georgia Safe From Further Coaching Staff Changes?
One thing that programs like Georgia always have to be mindful of when entering the offseason is other programs chasing after members of their coaching staff. The Bulldogs have already experienced that once as the defensive backs coach Fran Brown was named the head coach at Syracuse at the end of the season, and Georgia then went and hired Donte Williams from USC.
Another change that occurred within the coaching staff was Georgia hired Alabama’s defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson to coach safeties and be co-defensive coordinator alongside Schumann. This resulted from Will Muschamp electing to take a step back into an analyst position so that he could spend more time with his family this next season. There has been some chatter about Robinson potentially taking the defensive coordinator position at Alabama now that Kalen DeBoer has been hired, but Chris Low at ESPN has reported that he will remain with the Bulldogs after taking an interview with the Crimson Tide.
So with it being the middle of January and Georgia already having gone through a couple of staff changes, does that mean the Bulldogs are safe from any further changes? Well, not necessarily.
While the majority of college football teams have rounded out their staffs for the most part, NFL organizations have just begun the process of staff changes for those that are electing to do so. It wasn’t until February of last year that it was announced that the Baltimore Ravens were hiring former Georgia offensive coordinator Todd Monken to fill the same position on their staff. It was around that same time that word got out the Philadelphia Eagles were interested in hiring defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann until he ultimately decided to remain at Georgia.
So going off of that, if a current Georgia staff member were to make the switch to the NFL, that type of information should start rolling in here shortly. The Bulldogs have been able to retain the majority of their staff members over the last few years during the run of success, but that certainly doesn’t mean other programs and organizations are going to quit calling.
