Chelsea have held talks with Lille forward Jonathan David. It is reported in the Athletic that the 24-year-old’s representatives have been in discussion with the Blues over a possible transfer.
David has just one year left on his contract and has been made available for clubs across the continent after president Olivier Letang went public with his stance that the forward was free to depart. No approach has yet been made to the French side, it is said.
Chelsea are still looking to bring in a new striker this summer as they seek to add more firepower to Enzo Maresca’s side. They had been in talks with Aston Villa over a move for Jhon Duran but no offer has been made for the player.
Attention has since turned to other options including Atletico Madrid’s Samu Omorodion. If no move for David comes this summer then he will be able to negotiate a free transfer from January.
The Canadian scored 19 times in Ligue 1 last season and has an impressive record in France since his move from Belgian outfit Gent in 2020. In 2022/23 he managed 24 league goals with 15 and 13 in the previous two years as well.
David has long been linked with a move to the Premier League in the past
and suggestions elsewhere have been that he has even been offered out to Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United. He is currently away with his country at the Copa America.
