After TJ Bruce’s departure, TCU Baseball has hired Bill Mosiello as assistant head coach and hitting coach. Mosiello previously served as head coach at Ohio State for two years.

After TCU Horned Frog supporters learned Thursday evening that associate head coach TJ Bruce was leaving for his home mater, Long Beach State University, they began speculating on possibilities for his replacement following a poor season that saw the Frogs miss the postseason.

Bruce, who spent two seasons as the Horned Frogs’ associate head coach, will return to the Dirtbags, where he played in 2004 and worked as an assistant coach from 2007 to 2010. This will be TJ Bruce’s second head coaching role in his early career. He served six seasons as Nevada’s head coach, leading the programme to a 171-168 record before leaving to become an assistant coach at TCU.

Less than 24 hours later, Head Coach Kirk Saarloos hired Bill Mosiello, a name familiar to all Frog fans. Mosiello spent nine seasons on the Fort Worth staff before leaving two years ago to become the head coach at Ohio State. Mosiello had a 31-25 record in Columbus over two years and led the Buckeyes to their first Big Ten tournament berth since 2019 this season.

Mosiello was on TCU’s coaching staff from 2013 to 2022, where he helped guide the team to seven NCAA tournament appearances and four visits to Omaha while working under current A&M Head Coach Jim Schlossnagle.

Mosiello will be entrusted with returning the Horned Frogs to the NCAA tournament after ranking in the lowest half of practically every Big 12 offensive metric as a team.
