Mississippi State University student’s death remains under investigation

A Mississippi State University student was found dead Sunday afternoon, and his death remains under investigation, campus officials said.

The sophomore from Madison was identified as 19-year-old Maxwell Curtis Pennebaker, university officials said Monday afternoon in a news release.

Pennebaker was a building construction science major and member of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity.

Mississippi State President Mark Keenum and his wife Rhonda Keenum shared their condolences with Pennebaker’s family and friends. The couole also met Sunday with the men of Phi Kappa Tau to express their sympathies, encourage and pray with them.

While the university asks for respect for the privacy of the family and friends of this student at this sad and difficult time, counseling services and other support for any students or staff impacted by the incident are available through the Division of Student Affairs, Vice President for Student Affairs Regina Hyatt said Sunday.
