Howard Stern and wife Beth rekindle their vows during surprise wedding on ‘Ellen’
Howard Stern’s debut appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show did not disappoint. Not only did the erratic radio personality engage in an extended liplock with the talk show host, but he also had an unplanned second wedding with his wife, Beth Stern.
Stern wasted no time bringing up the controversy surrounding DeGeneres’ chat with former President George W. Bush last week. He recommended that in order to get the headline out of the news cycle, they produce larger news by making out.
“Once people see me with you, no one’s going to be thinking about George Bush,” he told me.
While DeGeneres’ face froze with disbelief, she accepted, but only after establishing the ground rule of “no tongue.” Prior to the kiss, they discussed the last time the openly lesbian talk show presenter, who is married to Portia de Rossi, kissed on the lips. She mentioned either Colin Farrell or Leonardo DiCaprio. Then, as Beth laughed, Stern leaned in for the kiss.
“This is the picture that’s going to make America forget that you were sitting next to George W. Bush,” Stern stated. He continued: “You’re so smart to do this.”
As they concluded, Stern joked with the audience that DeGeneres tried to French kiss him. She replied, “There was no tongue.” No, no! “There was no tongue.”
DeGeneres later persuaded Stern to kiss his wife on the show, all because she arranged a vow renewal for the couple, who married in 2008.
Stern proposed to Beth again on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last week, so DeGeneres surprised them with a flower-adorned altar and officiant from The Bachelor, Colton Underwood.
“I have someone here that I got ordained today to be able to marry you right now,” she continued. “I know you’re both fans of The Bachelor, so, ladies and gentlemen, Colton [is here].”
Stern poked fun at Underwood, telling him he needed to get a job, but then allowed him to remarry the author and animal activist.
“I so want to marry you,” said Stern to Beth, “and I vow to you if you remarry me, I promise for the rest of my life to watch The Bachelor with you in bed every single night — and Bachelor in Paradise.”
The duo sealed the deal with a kiss.
Surprisingly, that wasn’t their first celebrity wedding officiant. When the couple, who had been together since 2000, married for the first time, Riverdale actor Mark Consuelos, who is also Kelly Ripa’s husband, officiated the wedding.
