Kathie Lee Gifford says Howard Stern asked for forgiveness after their feud: ‘God can touch anybody’s heart.
The former ‘Today’ co-host has authored a new book, “I Want to Matter: Your Life Is Too Short and Too Precious to Waste.”
Kathie Lee Gifford was startled when Howard Stern called to apologise.
The former “Today” co-anchor has penned a new book called “I Want to Matter: Your Life Is Too Short and Precious to Waste.” It examines the power of self-love and includes self-reflective questions to help readers better understand their hopes and dreams.
In the book, she talked about the power of forgiveness and how it ended a decades-long rivalry with the infamous shock jock.
“It was a surprise to get a voicemail from Howard Stern,” the 70-year-old told Fox News Digital. “Once I heard it, I told my kids at the table, ‘Well, pigs have now officially flown…. [But] I just always feel God can touch anybody’s heart… I am not entitled to dislike somebody who hates me. Once you start praying for others, you can’t dislike them. Love cannot exist where hate can, and this is a very simple fact.”
“As your faith grows, you realise, ‘I’ve got to pray for that individual right now. “What they just said was terrible,” Gifford said. “Please pray. Ask God to heal them, since injured people continue to hurt people. That’s the truth.
The bitter blood first bubbled in 1995, when Gifford was picked to sing the national anthem at Super Bowl XXIX. Her husband, NFL star Frank Gifford, would host the live telecast. According to the book, Gifford heard boos while singing “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
Gifford quickly discovered that Stern had directed his supporters to boo her when she was welcomed on stage. Gifford characterised her experience as “completely surreal” because she had never met Stern or listened to his radio show.
But all changed years later, when Stern appeared on “Today” to announce his decision to join the judging panel of “America’s Got Talent.”
