Two Middlesbrough players could return for Watford, but McNair may already have played the final game.
Michael Carrick provided an injury report before Middlesbrough’s final game of the season.
Dael Fry and Josh Coburn could play a role in Middlesbrough’s season-ending game against Watford on Saturday, after returning to training this week.
It’s fantastic news for the Teesside duo, even if it comes in the season’s final game, with little at stake for either side. With both suffering from injuries during the season, finishing the season fit enough to tick over before returning for pre-season in the summer should put them in good shape for next season’s preparations.
With Michael Carrick not revealing any additional changes to his team, Hayden Hackney and Paddy McNair’s seasons are likely gone, as both face unclear futures this summer. Hackney will almost probably attract Premier League interest this summer, but Boro are determined to keep the standout academy graduate.
McNair, meanwhile, is out of contract this summer and looks expected to leave after six years with the club. He has been out since suffering a hamstring injury while on international duty in March, but returned to training a fortnight ago. However, as he is yet to return to a match-day squad, the Northern Irishman has most likely played his final game for Boro.
Carrick said: “Josh has returned to training this week, as has Dael. Whether Saturday is too soon, it’s nice to have them back, feeling fit, and able to rejoin the group. We’ll decide what it is, but otherwise everything remains the same.”
